Uprizin Hiphop Community and purpose films - Oleghe Ikpeminoghena #inthespiritofenterprise

It's another Tuesday and I am grateful even more than ever for life and living.

I met Uprizin a few years ago and when he told me he was into Arts, specializing in Graffiti, I was like, you mean people pay for that in Nigeria? We learn everyday o. Now, he has a hip hop school too. While I'm trying to figure that out, there are so many things happening around us that we miss.

On #strikedanvil today, +Kennedy Adetayo mentioned that some people are making a killing by specializing in dog food production here in Nigeria. I thought we didn't even have that many dog lovers!! Omo, you have to just keep your eyes and ears open.....Don't even dull yourself.

How to save a life - The Fray #musicfriday

So Finally, I managed to drag the not so little miss Olurotimi into my team. She loves music and writes well, jez like me yea! Hehe.Only, I must warn you, she's quite a melancholy type person, most of her song choices will make you sober. She has her happy go-lucky days too, we thank God for small mercies. lol.

I don't know what is doing the geh! Anyway, she's on board now for #musicfriday! Join me in welcoming her on board and I absolutely love her pick for this friday too!! Don't let bitterness drown you.

Enjoy......

More often than not, I listen to songs for their rhythm
And not their lyrics, I kid u not!!
However, it just so happens that when I find myself in certain situations
Or see some things happening around me,
Several songs relating to these situations or circumstances come to mind
But hey! Maybe I'm a genius
Or does anyone else out there possess similar super powers?!!
I didn't think so!

Anyway, there have been so many deaths already in this new year
And it's got me thinking about life in general
I revisited the thoughts of how uncool it is that some of us are grudge experts
I'm not talking about the "I'm mad at you! I'm not even gonna talk to u now" kind of grudges;
I'm talking about the mean spirited, evil (Yes evil) kind.
The "I'm not even gonna talk to you" for like a month or two or a year!!! Nooo way!!!
Life is short pple! Change your ways!

Back to business! So this whole mood got me thinking "how to save a life" by the fray! The song expresses the struggles of trying to reach out to a troubled person.
Yes, everybody is fighting a battle but there's always the stronger person! Use your strength! Encourage or at least say a prayer for someone today!
And to that person about to drown in the battles of life; hold on! Help is on the way.

Cheers people!

WATCH HERE

"How To Save A Life"

Step one, you say, "We need to talk."
He walks, you say, "Sit down. It's just a talk."
He smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through
Some sort of window to your right
As he goes left and you stay right
Between the lines of fear and blame
You begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Let him know that you know best
'Cause after all you do know best
Try to slip past his defence
Without granting innocence
Lay down a list of what is wrong
The things you've told him all along
Pray to God, he hears you
And I pray to God, he hears you

And where did I go wrong? I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

As he begins to raise his voice
You lower yours and grant him one last choice
Drive until you lose the road
Or break with the ones you've followed
He will do one of two things
He will admit to everything
Or he'll say he's just not the same
And you'll begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

How to save a life

How to save a life

Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
How to save a life

We don't have all the time in the world ....

Today is meant to be #inthespiritofenterprise but my heart is torn in and I can't bear to write the usual stuff.

I can't bring myself to put "RIP" I just can't

You assume that bad things only happen to bad people, that you and all your "good" people will always be around. It's just there in the background and so as everyone is busy carrying on with their daily lives. We hardly stop to pick up the phone to call or even visit. Once in a while we say hey and hey back on BBM and share a quick laugh or two without really connecting. When we call each other, the calls are rushed because of course, everyone is busy...... and hey, he/she's still going to be around for a long time so we will catch up at some point.

I won't be catching up with my cousin Oluwatosin though.... Time has run out and something bad happened to him. I got off air yesterday when the call came in, "where are you sade?" I am in Yaba I said. "So you're done with the show for today?" Yes, why? "We have a situation"  my Dad said. "Your uncle lost one of his sons and your mum is in bad shape, can you come home?" Who!!! Everything just faded when my Dad said Tosin. I was numb for a couple of hours, I was in yaba area and I think my car drove me to the nearest place which was my friend, Maureen's office. Being the crier that I am, I was barely through the door when I broke down and cried my heart out!

He called me just two days ago! I was in a hurry as usual, I didn't say how are you Tosin, I didn't say we really miss you in Lagos Tosin.... None of that. Just nonsense mumbo jumbo about wedding planning, in a rush too. I hate that he had to go just like that, I hate that I never took the time to chat with him about things that mattered, I hate that I will never have that opportunity on this earth again. But I have to deal with it. He is never coming back.

Tosin was just a kid in his early 30s, such a peaceful and caring guy. He would do his best to move mountains for anyone that had a problem. He was just so easy going and he loved the lord. When I had my moments with mo interview, even with the short notice, he came to the hotel in calabar where I was from Uyo straight after work. We played and laughed together, just like when we were kids... I want to remember that and never forget the beauty of quality time spent with family and friends. Those are the truly precious moments....

I love you Oluwatosin Olajide, but God loves you more.......

P.S
Take time out to call someone you haven't spoken to in a while today. Say "how are you" and mean it. Life is short, let's stop wasting time chasing things that don't matter.

Cheers fam!

Sade - Adekunle Gold #musicfriday

I didn't post this yesterday because there has been a mini war in my head as to which song to post for this week. I struggled between Simi's "you be tiff", +MI Abaga's "brother" and a couple of others, but as I was going through the #funny_african_pics page on instagram this morning, it hit me!

For many years, those of us with the name "Sade" pronounced "Shade" have been subjected to many miserable songs with our names. At some point I used to think, haba, is there no other yoruba name that can fit into these their songs ni?! Kilode. Then to make it worse, you will hear the songs and want to just cry. Lol.

It is so bad that  one of +Itsmrlawson's parodies had to drag Sade into it! Oh why...

Itmrlawson's parody take a look..

Remember Remedies and their J'eka ma fe r'awa one? After combing the whole of the internet (kind'a), I found the audio here. There were so many others, but I can't seem to remember nor find them.... Help me out here. Those "Sade" songs that made us hang our heads. We have suffered!

Anyways, this is why I have to celebrate +Adekunle Gold! Ho gat gat gat. I am so loving his cover of +One Direction's Story of my life. It's a "Sade" song that I am so totally proud of. I might be alone on this one, but I don't even care. Thank you Kunle!

I looked for the lyrics everywhere and found it on this cool site - Kofolyrics.com, that has all the lyrics to loads of great Nigerian songs. Add them up on their bbm channel [C0044FF66]

I made a small attempt to translate some of the yoruba in it, for the benefit of those who don't understand. It's quite tricky doing a direct translation from yoruba to English though! Whew. Lol. No wonder those yoruba home video translations are such a disaster, not like that is an excuse anyway.

Enjoy......

(anybody know a karaoke place where they do Nigerian songs? I feel ready to visit one soon. hehe)

STOP PRESS!!! Project 2015

Hello all, Welcome to 2015.

So there's been plenty ado about making "New year's resolutions", truth is whether we make new year resolutions or not, a new year brings an opportunity for change, new decisions and a desire to achieve more and become more.

Like I always say...a Project is an activity or series of activities that have constraints such as;

- time (Dec 31st 2015)
- budget (your salary or proposed income)

and has a specific outcome...which for many of us is to become better, change jobs, grow our businesses, make more money, get married...etc.

So today's post is just suggesting things that you might need to pay attention to when making those decisions...

1. Don't just have a resolution, turn it into a goal.

A goal is a resolution plus a plan.

A goal needs to be SMART.
Specific.
Measurable.
Achievable.
Realistic.
TimeBound

2. Consider external circumstances.

Left to you alone, you will probably achieve your goals (okay...probably not...you are your worst enemy...trust me...you are). Make plans with flexible alternatives based on scenarios that are possible no matter how remote. ( The 2015 elections mean that things will be different, make plans to maximize the opportunities and reduce the threats).

* If you are into a gift service business for example (why gift! Debo are you picking on me?), valentine is a busy period, it wont be this year. So start now, sell gift packages with delivery options and ensure delivery before February 14...election day in Nigeria (single men are excited for this...married men are trapped with their wives..)

(now he has let the cat out of the bag! Shocks!)

3. Make small changes to your plans as you go along.

We made the model in project management called the
Plan-Do- Check- Act...model
a. Make your plans
b. Do your plans
c. Check to see if the outcomes and the proposed plans are compatible
d. Act. When you see major differences....ACT. Do not wait till 2016.

Thank you.

I will be having a Project Management Training course this month (January 2015). The course is the PMP certification training program with a twist to help entrepreneurs grow their businesses in 2015 and help position career individuals for a better year.

The beauty of PMP is that it cuts across every career and job option.

Cost: N 49,999
Dates: 24th-25th Jan
31st Jan and 1st Feb

I am offering a 10% discount on anyone who contacts me from mofolusades.blogspot.com.

Make 2015 count...its #gametime.

Harven23 Ventures - Modupe Nnebedum #inthespiritofenterprise

Hello Fam!

Like play, like play its been about two years since the first one and I have been getting great results. Nelson grillz bagged a small business grant and a permanent gig, others have similar testimonies about getting leads and calls from the blog. It makes me more than happy because that exactly was the whole purpose of #inthespiritofenterprise, to get the word out there about people doing great stuff. Thank you for being there fam!

A quick recap of those featured in the past year.....

2014 entrepreneur line up

Let me introduce to you  +Modupe Nnebedum, she's our first entrepreneur showcase of the year and I have an interesting story to share about her. Recently I stopped over at a supermarket around my area to buy bread or so. As I parked, this annoying wasp or was it spider was hanging on my side mirror and I stretched out trying to get it off. A young man in his car beside me walked up to me and said, let me help you with that ma.

Just before he got back into his car, he took one look at my nachi hair and said, I hope you buy our coconut oil here, I didn't even know they sold coconut oil there and that was how the conversation began. Mr Nnedebum talked about his wife's business with such passion, about how she researched coconut for 8years! I was spell bound, I used the money I was supposed to go in to buy the bread with to buy 1 bottle of the product and drove home. No kidding! Lol. It is not every day that you meet men who support their wives' businesses with such passion. Bless him. I met Modupe not to long after that and we have been in touch.

So that's my little story, hehe. Let's hear hers.

Enjoy.......

Our Mission is to provide and maintain Total Quality Management, Customer Relationship Management and availability of products to meet the Beauty, Health and General Wellbeing sector.

When was it started?

It was started as a registered business in June 2014 and operates from Lagos.

What products/services do you offer?

Our Products are:

- Premium Virgin Coconut Oil

- Cocosheavera

- Coconut Milk Soap

- Coconut Cream Powder

- Desiccated Coconut

We also offer consultation services

What was your Inspiration for this business? Why Coconut?

(Smile) It all started in 2003, school was on strike (as usual) so reading motivational books, listening to +Sam Adeyemi’s messages, going for seminars etc were what I did to keep myself busy and improve myself. Fortunately for me, I stumbled on a spiral binded book in one of my brother’s rooms, I picked it up and decided to read it-“Acres of Diamond” it’s an e-book written by +Russell Conwell  (Russel H. Conwell). All the book was talking about was not looking elsewhere for opportunity, fortune, and achievement, that the resources we need to achieve all good things are present in our own community. Anyone can create wealth if we try hard enough, and our own “Acre of Diamonds” is well within our grasp.

I took a look through the balcony of my room and was thinking of what’s around me that could bring in money (what’s my Acre of Diamond), there it was, starring at my face, it was a palm tree, few blocks away from our house, and it then it occurred to me that we did have a Coconut tree in the house, so I stood up and googled “Coconut” and I saw the amazing things about coconut, its uses, benefits……just name it. I was so surprised because all I knew then was coconut being sold alongside with roasted or cooked maize and I remembered when we were much younger my mum would garnish it with pepper and we roast it in the oven( so delicious).

What I learnt that day remained resonate in my head and my life never remained the same.

How did you get funding for the business?

I started the business mainly with funds from personal savings, support from my ever loving and caring husband and from family members. Along the line came YouWin Programme, and we did “Win” the grant.

How will you summarize the journey so far?

So far the journey has been interesting, challenging and rewarding. We have had course to re-strategize, think deep, make decisions and take action. As we all know starting a business with a world class brand in mind wouldn't come cheap.

We have also been able to penetrate the market in our own little way and within the short period during which the business started (June 2014), we have featured in major exhibitions such as Wed-Expo (Lagos and Abuja), Runway to Stardom, Natural Hair Babes Seminar etc

How have you impacted your community?

We are also proud to say we co-sponsored Runway to Stardom (a fashion show) in November, where we gave out our products to some of their awardees as a way of encouraging them to keep the good work and keep pursuing their dream.

We have also provided job opportunities to both the young and middle age group within our immediate community (Ipaja) in which our factory is located.

We have also been able to recycle our waste product to animal feeds and craft. We are an organization that strongly believes in the Green Initiative where Companies are environmental friendly and managing Pollution.

How would you measure your success in achieving your goals so far?

Right now, the business has grown from where it started from, between June 2014 and now; we have distributors in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt, we are also on various e-commerce sites like Konga, Jumia, and OLX. We do deliveries to people in Benin, Ibadan etc

We have also had our products on international corridors like Ghana and a client in Atlanta USA.

What are the main challenges you have faced so far and how have you managed them?

One of the main challenges we have faced and still facing right now is funds, starting a business like ours really needs funds. From creating a good structure, stocking raw materials, advertisement etc

Another challenge we are facing right now is also boosting our production capacity which still boils down to having funds, getting our NAFDAC number so customers can easily walk into supermarkets and health shops to purchase and lastly is acceptance, we have had people who have bought adulterated virgin coconut oil before and are skeptical about buying again so we really have to go the extra mile to convince them to buy and those that have bought so far, have testified to the fact that H23 Virgin Coconut Oil is the best around town when it comes to purity, quality, packaging and price

What are the main opportunities that you have been able to leverage to get where you are today?

The good thing is that people are now going back to natural products, more conscious of their health, they are willing to learn new things i.e. to be informed and even ladies are now going back to their natural hair and our products meet these needs and we also sell knowledge not just the product which is also one thing our customers really appreciate. Everybody also wants to be seen and known with good product and packaging which our product has.

Given the chance will you do this again?

…YES, YES, YES ,YES, YES, I will do it over and over again…

What advice will you give to other entrepreneurs looking to launch

Focus, be determined, passionate and keep your dream alive, don’t be in a hurry…… and make the most of every opportunity you get

Goal Setting for the new year - SME Version #strikedanvil #2015

Hello Fam!

Here's my amateur instaquote new year greeting pishure.......

and this is the gen gen one, because we ain't playing at all........

It's been a while. I got caught up in Christmas sales and then year end festivities. It's like most members of my family think the world is coming to an end, the way weddings were just coming up ehn! I became a party hopper. Plus, I have gained a few kilos, did I say a few? Scratch that! This girl is in need of gyming tins... like ASAP! But seriously, before some people yab me and say which fat are you talking about; thing is, the way I ate this holiday, the fat will come upon me like a thief in the night, so I better resume exercising now, before I have to buy new clothes.

On strike the anvil tomorrow, we are joining the band wagon (yea yea, whatever) to discuss the main thing on most people's minds, well those who mean business at least. We'll be taking on Goal setting and planning for the new year. I bet this is all many of us have been hearing everywhere since the first of January, with all the prophetic declarations a la "2015, my year of this and my year of that". As if, that will be an automatic fix. You better get off your behind and work.

Like I always say though, we do not have the answers, but we will at least take a look at issues from the lay man's eye with help from some gurus too, hehe. Let's lay it all out and learn a thing or two from one another shall we.

I must confess, as I type this, I haven't taken the time to do my planning for the year, imagine *covers face*  and my excuse is, I can't function without some sanity around me. I only just cleared out my table and house today to get myself back in work mode. The whole place was like a war zone, paper everywhere (I'm like, how and where did all this paper come from). You think you don't need the housekeepers/nannies till they are off for a few days! Whew! So grateful that my nanny Mcphee came back today! Glowraaay to Jesus. Now let's eat that frog!

In other news, have you downloaded the enterprise radio app? Why not? What are you waiting for? Hep a sister and download the tin naa - ww.enterpriseradiong.com. God bless you as you do so...

Joining us on the show tomorrow are Debola Ogundeko and Adeshola Onadipe.

Debola Ogundeko is the principal consultant, Dino Strategies Limited, a tax consulting company in Lagos (If you don't have your taxes sorted, you better call him now!). He has a BSc. in Economics from the Ogun state university as well as an M.A in International Economics from the London Metropolitan University. He is a member of the Chattered institute of taxation of Nigeria (CITN).

He started his career with Bond Bank from where he left for Dixons Group, UK as a credit analyst. Up till recently he was a tax auditor with the Lagos Internal revenue service.

Adeshola Onadipe can best be described as a multi-preneur. She is an extremely passionate business woman who left her full-time career in banking to set up an events programming company known as sholskoncept. One of her many ventures! lol.

A graduate of accounting from the Lagos state University Ojo, she built a career in service management in the banking sector before her passion drove her to resign her position with FCMB and pursue her dreams.

On Goal setting, I have this group of entrepreneur friends - +Gbubemi Atimomo +Erin Magazine and Niyi Sonayon, I miss them. Last year and the year before the last, we would come together to have some sort of retreat to develop our business goals for the year and set targets together. Now everyone is scattered everywhere, it's so hard to get together.

From what we used to do, here are some of the key issues we (when I say "we", I mean it o, you and all of us in the studio) will look at tomorrow;

1. What are the elements of the goal setting? Revenue streams, product lines, bottom-line (profit), workforce count, client base, office or no?

2. In setting your objectives, should money be the starting point? For example, "I plan to hit a bottom-line of 40million naira this year"

3. How do you break the goals down into measurable and achievable steps?

4. How big can you dream? Can you set a 40billion target for example when just the year before you were at 3million? Is that foolhardy

Before we take off tomorrow though, here's my two cents.....

  • Focus on what really matters to the growth and sustainability of your business. Don't get carried away with dotting the I's and crossing the T's of your plan.
  • “To begin with the end in mind means to start with a clear understanding of your destination. It means to know where you’re going so that you better understand where you are now and so that the steps you take are always in the right direction.” -  +Stephen R Covey
  • Remember to use the SMART test when determining your goals...
S = Specific M = Measurable A = Achievable R = Results Orientated T = Time Framed

Cheers fam!! Don't forget to tune in tomorrow....
